Day 2: Introduction to Vibram Running

July 20, 2010

I may now have a broken big toe, not that I let that stop me today. Gravity is a fickle, fickle mistress. However, other than that, I am a fan of running in these bright, shiny new Vibram KSOs!

To say they encourage proper POSE running form is rather like saying Napoleon had a slight inferiority complex. I already knew these things were much more stable to wear than sneakers for doing squats, deadlifts, and other assorted manipulations of large heavy objects, and they’ve continued to impress me. Vibram has yet another lifelong customer.

Breakfast: Approx. 6:40 am. 4 strips nitrite-free bacon, 2 hard-boiled eggs, bowl of cucumber and cherry tomatoes, a handful of blueberries, 3 fish oil caps, and a small glass of coconut milk.

Felt awesome again today, up until 10:30ish when hunger decided to drop by again.

Lunch: Tilapia filet, salad a la yesterday’s, handful of almonds, 3 fish oil caps.

Wasn’t bad on the energy today. Made it clear through until 2:30 or so before hunger came back. Almost no yawning today.

Afternoon snack: Small chicken breast, handful of blueberries, handful of almonds.

Workout: Light downhill jog for a warmup, during which my left big toe decided to catch on a light breeze and fold under my foot just as most of my weight came down atop it. This went into a bit of flopping about and perhaps some profanity, followed by some dynamic stretching drills for the legs and groin. Then, hill sprints 5 x :30, with 2 – 3 min. rest between sprints. Structural damage must not be allowed to impede progress.

PWO Food: Bowl of spaghetti squash in organic sauce sans sugar, 4 strips nitrite-free bacon, 3 fish oil caps, small glass of coconut milk.

Dinner: Wound up being a sizeable broiled barramundi filet with dill and lemon pepper, a side of cooked carrots, a small glass of coconut milk, and a handful of pecans.
